Make your New Home Kid Safe

  
  

Unsure of how to kid proof your new home? Moving is an exciting, stress-full day for everyonekid safe home in the house. But you need to remember accidents do happen, so let's go through some preventions before its too late.

There is a lot of toxic items, and some may seem relatively harmless, but all should be kept up high or in a locked cabinet out of your children's reach. 

cleaners
insecticides
air fresheners
make-up and make-up remover
bathing supplies
lotions and styling products

Now that we got the toxins out of the way.
Lets go room to room.

child's bedroom-
Don't set your child's bed near a window  - they may fall out!
If you moved into an older home, have it checked for lead paint.
Check the blinds for any dangling cords.
Put up window guards - especially if your child is adventurous.

Family room-
Make sure all wires and cords are inaccessible.
Secure entertainment centers and shelving to the walls.
Use corner pads on any sharp pieces of furniture.

Bathroom-
Keep medicines, mouthwash, and any other chemicals out of child's reach.
Set water heater to below 120 degrees.
Install bars and a non-slip mat in tub to prevent falls.
Put child lock on toilet so they can not open it and fall in.

Kitchen-
Keep any sharp objects out of child's reach.
Put away cleaning supplies.
Keep cords of small appliances out of reach.
Hide plastic bags.
Install childproof latches on all cupboards, stove handles, and oven doors.
Keep fire extinguisher close by.

Hallway and stairs-
Make sure smoke detectors are working.
Provide secure railings on each side of stairs.
Bright lighting near stairs.
Remove or secure any frayed material from carpeting.

Electrical and Heating-
Place safety plugs in any unused outlets.
Put barriers around radiators and fireplaces.


Remember this list may not pertain to every house, you may have other hazards to tend to.  Play it Safe.
